Jamie Sullivan, formerly Hinson, has been training in the Maryland area since 2000. Originally from Long Island, NY, Jamie moved to Maryland to study at the Univ. of Maryland, College Park. There she receieved at B.S. in Animal Management/Industry. After several years working for both the Federal Government and the D.C. Government in Viral Surveillance and Control (mainly West Nilve Virus), she received the Masters in Biodefense at George Mason University in VA. There she studied under the internationally reknowned Dr. Ken Alibek, a former Soviet Union Colonel who was 1st Deputy Chief of the secret Soviet Germ Warfare Program, Biopreparat, and later defected to the U.S. in 1992.
Rather than pursuing this career, Jamie, along with her husband, Kevin, decided to follow her love of horses and continue her training and coaching. They founded Snapdragon Stables in 2005. Jamie competed as a junior on Long Island with her Eq/Jumper 'Blue And Bold'. She later rode for the Univ. Of Maryland. After many accomplishments in the IHSA, she began coaching at both Local and Rated Shows in Zone 3, she coached numerous NCEL (National Capital Equitation League) A-Teams for Loftmar Stables in Bowie, MD to much success. Jamie wasnames Coach Of The Year in 2003 and 2004 for the League. Modeled after IHSA, this league allows riders ofvarious ages, typically 13-18, to compete on borrowed horses over 2'6" with very little warm-up. With a similar format, Jamie coached the Archbishop Spalding Varsity High School team as well. Jamie believes that the skills acquired under this format are invaluable. She has incorporated these fundamentals into her current teaching program.
In July 2008, Brooke Margaret was born and had become an integral part of our show team. She attends lots of lessons, helps feed the horses and hasn't missed too many shows either. She is enjoying Leadline on her pony, Wonton Foohey. Would you believe that 'horse' was on of her first words? Her sister, Hadley Jane was born in Feb 2010 and is waiting for her chance to ride as well.
Annually, riders and horses from Snapdragon Stables attend dozens of USEF shows. Jamie breeds and shows warmbloods in Hunter Breeding at such shows as Devon, Warrenton and the Sallie B. Wheeler National Hunter Breeding Championships. In performance classes, Jamie competes on personal and client-owned horses in the professional hunter and jumper divisions.
In 2008, Snapdragon Stables expanded to include breeding with the purchase of Chips Of Clay from Marie Emrey of Lazy J Sporthorses and then Conundrum by Contucci. Our 2009 filly, Sanibel, O/O Chips Of Clay received Gold Premium at her Rheinland Pfalz-Saar Inspection and began showing to incredible success on the line as a yearling. With 3rd at Devon and a win at Zone Finals, she finished Reserve Horse of The Year for USEF Zone 3 and ranked National Top-Ten Yearling for 2010. Our 2011 colt, Archer O/O Chips of Clay by Apiro has been sold. We have a Contucci mare in foal to Apiro for a Feb 2012 foal.
In 2010, Kevin and Jamie purchased our current farm in Queen Anne, MD. Please view our 'Facilities' page to see what Snapdragon Stables has to offer.
